Premier League Women Open Season with a Win

Round 1 was against Waverely away which is always a hard task. Both teams had players out due to state representative duty. We also had a few out due to injury as well.

We had snuck down to watch Waverley in a practice match and knew they would be a strong, physical team who would get everyone behind ball to slow game down.

We started the game well and attacked from the very beginning and created lots of shots but rushed ourselves and failed to convert. We had two players sent off in the first half which slowed our momentum and this allowed Waverley their first circle entry in the half with only three minutes left on the clock. At half time it was still 0-0.

In the half time talk we discussed about building up play and linking passes together to create chances which we did, but once again we had players sent off with some dubious decisions which forced us away from our game style and allowed Waverley to get a few shots on goal.

When we finally had 11 players on the pitch we got back to our style which allowed us to get some quality build up of play and resulted with Captain Anna Moore scoring our opening goal for the year. This  goal removed the pressure and we earned a corner not long afterwards and Jane La Nauze scored after picking up a rebound off the Waverley keeper.

We then had a few more players sent off which slowed us down as we consolidated our lead and finished off the game 2-0 victors.

" Very happy we got the win considering we played short a player for at least half the game. A nervous win but will fill the team with confidence moving forward" was comments from coach Luke Michael after the match.

Next up is Doncaster at home 2pm Saturday.
