We were very pleased to welcome Ted Baillieu, our local MP, Member for Hawthorn, who dropped in at Matlock on Sunday to see our WPL team in action against Mentone. He was there for the last very exciting 15 minutes to see the Wellers come very close to drawing the match with a short corner as the final whistle blew. Alas it didn’t work out for us and we went down 3-4 but what a great match, against the top team. Ted was there as our guest because the State Government had kindly provided funding towards the cost of our new Premier League uniforms and we were keen to show them off to him. He admitted after the match that hockey was one of the few sports he had never tried (although his son plays) – because he found it too quick and very scary! He was very relaxed and happy to stay around at afternoon tea to talk to players and parents. We very much appreciate his interest and support from the State Government’s Sporting Uniform Grants program.
