Congratulations to James Sach, Brittany Simmons, Sophie Taylor and Greta Brooks who have been awarded FIH Youth Leadership Awards.  They will be presented with their awards on Wednesday 2nd December by the of the FIH Development and Coaching Committee, Ms Anne Ellis. In all, 10 awards will be made. 

Description: 

1.  Recognition and reward of young hockey leaders who have done an outstanding job over more than two years.  Their work must have had a clear influence on youth hockey promotion an/or the improvement of youth hockey quality at club, school, regional or national level. 

2.  To stimulate young hockey players to take up leadership positions 

Criteria: 

A nominated youth hockey leader should meet the following criteria: 

1. Age Groups – 13-19 years 

2. He or she has taken up one or more leadership positions(s) over at least the last 2 years 

3. He or she has achieved one or more successes within this period and have acted as a role model for other youngsters 

4. The work of the nominee has value for either youth hockey promotion and/or the improvement of the quality of hockey 

Areas of Leadership Involvement: 

The areas in which a nominee operates could be one of the following: 

1.  Administration – e.g. member of a committee 

2.  Officiating – e.g. umpiring the games of younger hockey players 

3.   Coaching – e.g. coaching the games of younger hockey players and/or leading practice sessions 

4.  Team management – e.g. assisting the coach managing a team, captaincy of a team 

5.  Event management – e.g. organising fundraising activities, tournaments, coaching clinics 

6.  Development programmes – e.g. helping out in projects for younger players 

7.  Sport health/physical training – e.g. providing first aid or fitness training 

8.   Communication – e.g. producing or editing a (school/club) hockey magazine or running a website 

9.  Facilities Management – e.g. providing assistance in the canteen of a clubhouse, the maintenance of the pitch, etc.
