At the 2011 Board AGM, Robert Dowling was unanimously elected as a Life Member of the Camberwell Hockey Club.
Rob was one of the two outstanding
goalkeepers of his era in Victoria and in no small way ensured the continued success of the Men’s State League 1 team in winning their premierships throughout the 1980’s and 90’s. In other clubs, that alone would earn him the privilege of Life Membership. However CHC is not any club. We require more in the way of club service to be considered a worthy candidate for life membership.
Rob has been a member of this Club for many years and for at least for the past 27 years has been Treasurer of the Club, He has kept our club solvent, invested our money wisely and administered the trust account in accordance with the deed.
His financial stewardship has enabled this club to replace the playing surface from en tout cas in 1985 to synthetic surfaces in 1986, 2000 and 2011.
In addition, as a long time office bearer, he has been integral to the smooth functioning of the Club in offering advice on committee matters outside of the finance portfolio.
